New Defensive Driving
Welcome to the new defensive driving website. For many years
now defensive driving has mostly been a pre-occupation for people
who needed credits from a defensive driving course in order to get
an advanced driving licence, or who had a conviction for a driving
offence.
For a few Defensive Driving has been a way of life, when driving or in
traffic. With a hightened awareness of general traffic safety in
the community now, we have launched this new Defensive Driving
website.
What is Defensive Driving
Defensive
Driving was developed in the 1970's in response to climbing traffic
accident injuries and deaths. Since the late 1980's, attending a
defensive driving course has been a requirement for anyone seeking
an advanced driver's licence (like taxi or heavy vehicle) and also
for anyone convicted of many driving offenses, before they could
again drive. During the last 30 years the principles of defensive
driving have largely remained the same, although while it was previously
rather limited knowledge, now most people understand the basic principles
of defensive driving.
We are attempting to expand the knowledge in new directions.
The information available on this site will cover all the material
normally given
in official and recognized Defensive Driving training courses
that are available to the public in most regions of the world. One difference
is that here it is available for free. If you need a recognised
course attendance certificate to gain a new driving qualification,
or because of a driving conviction, you can't get that here at
the moment. However if you want to be a safer driver, everything
that we have discovered is available for you, for free here.
In
addition we are extending this knowledge to cover vehicles other
than standard cars which you may need to drive.
Defensive Driving is all about saving lives, and avoiding accidents on
the road. This site looks at this from a very wide perspective.
